Intent
At Harbour Vale School, Project is a Key Stage 3 subject designed to bring together learning from across the sciences, humanities and wider curriculum. The intent of the curriculum is to provide students with meaningful opportunities to explore themes that cut across traditional subject boundaries, helping them develop a broader understanding of the world and the connections between people, places, events and scientific ideas.
Project aims to:
- Develop curiosity, creativity and independent thinking.
- Encourage students to make links between scientific, geographical, historical and social concepts.
- Build confidence in research, enquiry and problem-solving.
- Promote understanding of local, national and global issues.
- Foster respect for different perspectives, cultures and beliefs.
- Prepare students for future learning by developing transferable skills that support success across the curriculum.
Implementation
The Project curriculum is delivered through engaging, thematic units that combine knowledge and skills from a range of subject areas. Learning is organised around enquiry-based questions and real-world issues that encourage students to investigate, discuss and evaluate information.
Students are given opportunities to:
- Conduct research using a variety of sources.
- Carry out scientific investigations and practical activities.
