Admissions

Harbour Vale School is one of four short stay Learning Centres across Dorset who provide education for those students unable to sustain a full-time place in mainstream school.  Students are referred for a number of reasons via a number of professionals including the Dorset Exclusions Officer, Health Professionals & CAMHS, Dorset LAC Team and Dorset SEN Team.

Students can only gain access to provision if a referral is agreed by the Alternative Provision Admissions Panel which is chaired by Mrs Sylvia Lord (Alternative Provision Commissioner).

Pupil Places

Harbour Vale School is currently able to offer 32 student places.

Admissions Process

Once a place has been agreed at panel with identifiable outcomes and time frames, parents will be contacted to arrange an induction meeting within 7-10 days. This will be an opportunity for parents/carers to discuss their childs needs and agree the next steps in their childs education.

During the initial induction process:

  • Home Visit
  • Invitation to visit the school
  • Admission forms to be completed
  • Parental handbook shared
  • Initial personalised timetable to be agreed (part-time for first 2 weeks to allow for baseline assessments and keyworker to be established)
  • Transport arranged
  • Review dates agreed

Provision cannot commence until the school is in receipt of all admission forms required.
