Admissions

Harbour Vale School is one of four Learning Centres across Dorset. Student places are allocated and agreed through the Dorset Council Learning Centre Panel, chaired by a Dorset Council Service Manager.

Pupil Places

Harbour Vale School currently offers 53 student places. Places are available for students who:

  • Have been permanently excluded from mainstream school
  • Require provision to support medical needs that prevent regular attendance in school
  • Access dual registration provision alongside their mainstream school placement
  • Need re-engagement support to help them successfully return to education and achieve positive outcomes

Admissions Process

Once a placement has been agreed by the Inclusion Panel, with clear outcomes and review timescales identified, parents/carers will be contacted to arrange an induction meeting.

This meeting provides an opportunity for families to visit the school, meet key staff, and discuss their child’s individual strengths, needs, and support requirements.

The Initial Induction Process

The induction process includes:

  • An invitation to visit the school
  • Completion of admission and registration forms
  • Sharing of the school handbook and other important information
  • A discussion regarding the provision and timetable that will best meet the student’s individual needs, including arrangements for any baseline assessments
  • Agreement of review dates and next steps

Please note: A placement cannot commence until all required admission documentation has been completed and returned to the school.
