Intent
The BTEC Tech Award in Sport will equip our pupils with positive values in regards to leading and participating in sport, leading healthy active lifestyles and becoming lifelong learners of sport. Pupils will follow a balanced program of theoretical and practical activities which will explore investigating provisions for sport including equipment and facilities to enhance sport, planning and delivering sport drills and sessions and finally exploring fitness for sport including fitness testing and methodology. The study of this qualification, as part of key stage 4 learning, will help pupils to make more informed choices for their post 16 provision; including choices like the Level 3 BTEC National in Sport or Sport science apprenticeships.
Implementation
Pupils will complete three components of work, which focus on the assessment of applied knowledge, skills and practices. The three components in the qualification give pupils the opportunity to develop broad knowledge and understanding of the sport sector, and specialist skills such as analysis, leadership and teaching and communication skills at levels 1 and 2.
Components 1 and 2 are assessed through non-exam internal assessment. This style of assessment promotes deep learning through ensuring the connection between knowledge and practice. The components focus on:
Component 3 is the one external assessment which provides the main synoptic assessment for the qualification. Component 3 builds on components 1 and 2 and enables learning to be brought together and related to a real-life situation. This component is based on a written assessment which requires pupils to demonstrate that they can identify and use effectively an appropriate selection of skills, techniques, concepts, theories and knowledge from across the whole qualification in an integrated way.
